Searchfox RSS is an online RSS aggregator. It's trying to do something new with ranking posts to personalize feeds reading.
In my first trying, I found Searchfox lets you rank the post with three levels: favorite, read, delete. Posts are marked as read automatically when you click the small triangle before the title. That means the title of the post gets your attention. Or you should manually mark the post as read if you select expands all the summaries. Favorite and Delete have more impact on the learning engine. But this is only my guess at this time.
Posts are sorted by ranking not by time. Unlike in bloglines, you don't have to open every category to read the feeds. Searchfox lets you browse all the posts in one page. Surely, if there is not any machine learning algorithm, posts are shown by time. That will be a mess.
Other difference between bloglines and Searchfox
- Bloglines does things that searchfox does not. For example, Bloglines is one of the best link search engines.
- They both do feeds suggestion. While bloglines' suggestion feature is not good. Searchfox's is not open yet. So I am looking forward to this feature on searchfox.
- In Bloglines, you know which blogger is hot by number of subscribers and which post is important by number of reference. In Searchfox, there is also community feature but it's not taken into account by the learning engine yet (according to the release notes). Even when they work they are not as visible as in Bloglines.
I imported 522 bloglines feeds with 22 timed out. The importing process is seamless, but you need to be patient. Bloglines category is kept.
Why another online feeds aggregator?
With all the online feeds aggregators everywhere, do we bother to have another one? The answer is yes. AFAIK, Searchfox is the first online feeds aggregator that takes attention into account. With hundreds of subscribed feeds, Searchfox can tell you what's import to you. Yes, it's maybe not important to others but to you.
Question: is there any relation between Searchfox bookmark and Searchfox RSS?
Currently they are two separately systems. But we can expect that Searchfox will combine your two account and do personalization according to your bookmarks.
I came across a tag that looks like from Searchfox bookmark in one post. Need to see more to confirm. Currently you can not tag posts directly in Searchfox RSS.
